UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon's to visit Nigeria.


Nigeria will play host to the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, who will be in the country from tomorrow, Sunday August 23 to Monday, August 24, 2015.

The UN chief will be meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and state governors during his brief stay in the country and will also lay wreath  to commemorate the 4th Anniversary of the terror attack on the United Nation’s House in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.


His itinerary also includes embarking on a field visit to Kuje Area Council in Abuja and to also discuss with key government functionaries, the pathways to a new Nigeria-Role of Sub-National Governments.
He will also dialogue with Nigerian Business actors under the theme ‘The role of Nigerian Business and Economy in Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing Climate Change’.

Afterwards, he will  hold talks aimed at deepening Nigeria’s democracy with government officials on the theme: Democracy, Sustainable Development and Countering Violent Extremism.

After his meeting with Buhari, they will both address a joint press conference, after which Ki-moon will be hosted to a dinner by Buhari at the state house banquet hall, Abuja.

Meanwhile, the UN has announced that it will sponsor 500 victims of Boko Haram violence from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states to acquire vocational skills.

According to a UN official, the skills training would include hair dressing, tailoring, knitting, catering and decorations, shoe-making, leather works and computer studies.a
